HLR activates young leaders by engaging them in immersive discipleship, hands-on service, and intentional community in the stunning paradise of Kaua’i.

Through 3 months on our farm and in our small businesses, serving at kids camps, adventures in God’s creation, Biblical teachings, and daily life modeled after Acts 2:42–46; residents grow in love for Jesus and others, zeal for His House, and a heart of servant leadership.

Whatever their next endeavors may be, residents are sent out to handle today’s challenges with clearer purpose, greater direction, and boldness to lead in the life Christ calls them to— a grand, global, gospel adventure.

Ways We Serve

The Farm

Assisting with general landscaping, harvesting citrus, sustainability practices, and helping our shepherd care for the sheep, all while working with our farm’s local arborist.
Production Team

Residents learn how to run their own micro-business: using farm-grown ingredients, residents produce organic, whipped honeys, jams, sourdough bread and other tasty products to sell at markets and local businesses. Makanalani Kids

Working closely with Makanalani’s camps for children, assisting with games, serving meals, and helping with activities like our giant slip ‘n slide. Makanalani Kids is at the heart of the story of how we, HLR, started!

Farmer’s Market

The marketplace as it was originally intended: interacting with both local and tourist customers, residents get experience selling our locally made products face-to-face and get to be a light to our community.

Beyond Kauai

At the end of your time in Kauai, and part of the Residency, you can spend a week with the Genesis Collective in Southern California to fully immerse yourself in our partner church communities and learn more about their exciting mission, bringing the potential for more adventure in your future.

Like your time in Kauai, your accommodation and meals in California are included in your fees, while you cover your travel.

We will also start running global missions trips in 2026 (~every 2 years) and inter-island outreach trips every year. We seek to fulfill the Great Commission and broaden residents’ experience of the global-ness of this gospel adventure Christ calls us into.
